Mice
The title of the exhibition comes from the common phrase “have a nice day,” where “nice” sounds similar to “mice.” This phonetic misinterpretation (or playful distortion) forms the foundation of this work, questioning the singularity of language, its inherent logic, and how we interpret the world through it.
In this exhibition, I chose the mouse as the central motif—both an “intruder” in our daily lives and a projection of uncontrollable desires and anxieties in dreams. The numerous mouse plushies appear soft and approachable, yet carry an underlying sense of unease. They often gather in groups, sometimes lurking in the space, moving between being cute and unsettling, evoking both a sense of intimacy and discomfort.
The exhibition explores not only the fractures and misinterpretations of language but also the blurred boundaries between dreams and reality, cuteness and unease, blessings and disturbance. “Have a mice dream” could be a sweet dream or a confused nightmare. Ultimately, we cannot choose in advance—the true allure of language and dreams lies in their ability to quietly influence our emotions and thoughts.
